I’ve been playing Pokémon GO since 2016. I’ve caught thousands of Pokémon, walked hundreds of kilometers, and done my share of raids. But last month, I missed a Mewtwo raid because I was 50 Pokécoins short. I had the remote pass ready, but I couldn’t buy it. The timer ran out. I was furious – at myself, mostly. That night, I decided to never let that happen again. Here’s what I started doing.
The Free Pokécoins I Was Ignoring
After the Mewtwo incident, I looked at where free Pokécoins actually come from. Turns out, I was skipping a lot of easy sources.
Gym defense – I used to place Pokémon in gyms randomly and forget about them. Now I have a routine: I drop one in a gym near my house every evening. With a couple of friends, we coordinate so we get kicked out after 8 hours. That’s 50 coins almost every day. It’s the most reliable source.
Field research – I never bothered with the daily tasks. Now I do them. Some give coins directly. The monthly breakthrough also gives coins sometimes. It’s not much, but it adds up.
Community days and events – The March event gave 200 coins for a few simple tasks. I check the in-game news every week now. I used to ignore it.
With these three, I was getting about 150–200 Pokécoins per week. Enough for a few raid passes, but still too slow for the big legendary rotations.
The One Thing That Helped Me Catch Up
After I missed Mewtwo, I was frustrated. A friend told me about a reward platform where you do small tasks – watch ads, try free apps, answer surveys – and earn points. You exchange the points for gift cards (Google Play, Apple App Store). I used it to get a $10 gift card, which gave me enough Pokécoins for 5 remote raid passes. Now I use it whenever I’m short for a legendary rotation.
It’s not a hack – it’s just a way to get gift cards without spending real money. I’ve used it on my main account for months with no issues. It never asks for your password.
🎁 Need Extra Pokécoins?
The platform I use for gift cards has helped over 2,500 players catch legendary raids. Link below if you want to see.

P.S. If you’ve ever missed a raid because you were short on coins, you’re not alone. The link above is how I make sure I never miss another one.
Reader Discussion
I missed a Ho-Oh raid last year because I was short on coins. This is exactly what I needed. Thanks Alex!
The gym defense tip is key. I found a spot that rotates every 8 hours and now I get 50 coins daily without trying.
